I am, and always will be, a beach girl. Everything about the sea and oceanside calls to me. Morgan is a mountain guy. Camping and hiking is his happy place. Unfortunately we live in neither a coastal town or a mountain town, so we find ourselves looking for getaways quite often. This time we chose A Mountain Getaway at 36 North Cabins in Purlear, NC graciously hosted by The Carolina Experience. Read til the end for a special promo code just for you when you book your stay with The Carolina Experience!
Nestled in the heart of nature, this hidden gem promises a rejuvenating experience surrounded by picturesque landscapes on a road of cozy cabins. In this blog post, we’ll take you through our delightful stay and share some exciting activities to explore in the charming town of Purlear, Blowing Rock, and Wilkesboro.

Arrival at 36 North Cabins
Our journey began as we arrived at 36 North Cabins, eagerly anticipating a weekend filled with relaxation and adventure. We left Friday afternoon to stay through. the following Monday. We arrived later than we hoped after driving through a pretty bad rainstorm. It was dark and the road is a bit dark at night, but we followed the map we were given and found our way through. I informed them we would be a little late for checking in and they were so accommodating. The Carolina Experience welcomed us with warm hospitality, ensuring that our stay would be nothing short of memorable. As we drove up, all the outside lights had been left on for us as well as the main living and kitchen lights off the front entrance. This made getting inside much simpler. Our family got in seamlessly, took a quick tour, then unpacked the car for our weekend adventure.

What The Cozy Cabin Offers
Each cabin at 36 North Cabins is a sanctuary in itself, featuring modern amenities while maintaining a cozy, mountain-living ambiance. The cabins, strategically positioned to offer breathtaking views of the mountains, provided a perfect blend of comfort and rustic charm. The crackling fireplace and spacious decks allowed us to unwind as we took in the crisp mountain air. With fully equipped kitchens, we had the option to prepare our own meals or savor local flavors at nearby restaurants. The Carolina Experience is so thoughtful in what they provide for their guests. Each time we’ve stayed with them they have all the necessities needed for a comfortable stay.

36 North has a few cabins to choose from, and we stayed in Serenity Ridge. It is the perfect space for our family with a large master bedroom and bathroom with a second bedroom upstairs with cozy twin beds and a second large bathroom. The girls loved the open loft and played on the stairs and in the loft area a lot. We all had our favorite parts of staying in Serenity Ridge. My daughters’ favorite was definitely the hot tub. Morgan was in heaven with the large wood burning fireplace. He practically kept it burning all weekend long. For me, it is a toss up between the hot tub overlooking a beautiful forest view with mountains on the horizon, or the cozy porch swing where I had coffee every morning and listened to the peaceful sounds of nature.

The 36 North Cabins allow us to become immersed in the beautiful, tranquil nature of Purlear, NC. It is such an amazing feeling to wake up in this environment. It is such a relaxing atmosphere. The quiet, the fresh air, and the quality time with my family made for the perfect weekend getaway.

Exploring Purlear, NC
Purlear, a quaint town surrounded by lush greenery, offers a tranquil escape. Take a leisurely stroll through the hiking trails, discovering the beauty of nature at every turn. The peaceful atmosphere is perfect for reconnecting with loved ones or enjoying some solitary moments.
This mountain getaway also offers family fun like gem mining. We took the girls to a little gem mining shop in Purlear really close to our cabin. They weren’t really interested in mining/cleaning their own (we stopped in the shop on the way back from a 3 mile hike) but they did fill up their own bags of gems for $5 and were just as giddy.

We also ventured to Boone for some hiking adventures and found the Boone United Trail. This very doable hiking trail begins behind the Boone United Methodist Church, rambles halfway up the summit of Howard’s Knob and returns to the church.

Adventure in Blowing Rock, NC
A short drive from the cabin at 36 North is the town of Blowing Rock. This charming town boasts a vibrant arts scene, boutique shops, and delectable dining options. Don’t miss the iconic Blowing Rock itself, a natural formation offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The girls loved seeing everything around us. We went on such a clear day you could see mountains and ranges really far away.

Blowing Rock also has a large, fun, playground called Memorial Park which is situation in the middle of the quaint downtown area. We played with the girls for a while then headed to Kilwins for the most delectable treats to take home. The fudge there is just…..:::chef’s kiss::
